Imagineindia International Film Festival Madrid

Largest film festival in Madrid this year has celebrated its tenth edition. ImagineIndia was created to present and explain the movies made in the Indian Subcontinent, Asia and Australia, and to eliminate topics that are on Bollywood cinema in the West and show another side of reality that exists in India. The festival was founded by Qazi Abdur Rahim who has been nominated for the Goya Awards twice.

ImagineIndia International Film Festival has been organized since 2001 in Madrid. Since its founding numerous international personalities of high standing have been present at the festival, like MIRA NAIRBUDDHADEB DASGUPTA (winner in Venice), MANI RATNAM (awarded in 2011 in Venice), MARIA DE MEDEIROSAGUSTIN ALMODÓVAR, CARLOS SAURA, SHARMILA TAGORE, ANGELA MOLINA, AAMIR KHANCHARLES TESSON. The level of participation of film stars and professionals is unmatched by any other film festival in Madrid.

The festival is an international one, while not exhibiting films from Latin America and Africa, which already exist for niche festivals devoted exclusively to the said continents. Spanish and European film industries are present as a Gypsy film (almost all European production) and Spanish production in India.

The festival, since its inception, has helped promote and consolidate the presence of cinematography, especially  Asian and particularly Indian, in the Spanish panorama. Helping with their collaboration to knowledge of Asian markets through its contacts with producers, agents and artists. This has led to more visits to Spain by Indian producers for their movies (as an example, Kanzaman relationship with Bollywood producers / or comment MANAGER MAYDEL participation in the recruitment of Indian international stars) indicate that currently only exists in Spain a festival of high-level Asian cinema is ImagineIndia.

ImagineIndia also involved in the production of film winner ImagineIndia 2 years ago and Cines del Sur: Shivajee Chandrabhusan.

Since its inception, and  the participation of Goma Espuma , Carlos Saura, Sharmila Tagore, el Gran Wyoming, Cadena Ser, the impact of the festival in the Spanish and Indian media has been outstanding. Coverage by Dias de Cine, TV news for nearly all channels, Radio 3, newspapers such as El Mundo and El Pais, have been constant in all editions.

Also highlight the coverage in the media of the winners in their home countries. The festival has Press Departments in India and Spain.

Most of the film projections of the festival are free.

With each new edition, the Asian section goes one step further, not only in quantity but especially in quality. This has been possible thanks to the organization NETPAC (Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema, chaired by Aruna Vasudev, ImagineIndia patron) who chairs the Asian Competition section. NETPAC is the most prestigious organization promoting Asian cinema and honored to have your support ImagineIndia for the past three years. The festival consists of different sections: Indian Section, Asian Section and International Section. The first dedicated to India, with a selection of films in competition, as well as classics, documentaries, Spanish production in India. The other sections are devoted to films made in Asia and international production.
